This is why you see it in advertising all the time and everywhere. There are varying degrees of the usage of this powerful little word. It is best used when the offer is of good value and it really is free. If you have to purchase something to get something for free, that is really not free.
So what exactly is free? You have to ask today because so many things claim to be. But are they really? The Japanese have a saying that free is the most expensive. I agree to a point. Here is why..
When it comes to advertising and marketing, free is a loss leader. However, you must give something to get it. Usually giving your contact information (like email and physical address and phone and fax numbers). Allowing them permission to send you offers via your info. This might not sound so bad until you realize that this information is going to be sold again and again. This means that your email is going to get spammed to death. This means tele-marketers are going to call you incessantly and your fax will become the target of ever increasing advertising. Not so free huh? So, when you see something for free, read the fine print.
You see, all lead production is done with an offer. Have you ever been to a county fair where you can enter to win a free car, a free vacation or a free cruise? Lead production at work. Fill the card out and I guarantee you will get many calls pitching you something. Most likely time-shares. Have you seen the TV commercials promising you work from home success and sending you to a web site to fill out the questionnaire? Lead production. Most of these type of lead production systems get your information and they sell it to multiple sources and before long you find yourself buried in unsolicited emails and annoying telemarketing calls. Database Marketing is a powerful and competitive weapon - especially on the Internet. The growth of database marketing is rooted in the small business philosophy of staying close to the customers, under-standing and meeting their needs and treating them well after the sale.
Corporate marketing is tied to BIG, general marketing or advertising campaigns with a single untargeted message. This message may be based on the companies Unique Selling Proposition (USP). However, customers have different needs and a single USP spelt out to the whole market is no longer enough.
Messages must be tailored to specific segments of the market and ultimately to the market segment of one, the individual customer. Computerizing the customer database makes it possible to address messages more specifically and market additional products to each customer.
What is Database Marketing (DBM for short)?
DBM is an interactive approach to marketing communication, which uses addressable communications media (mail, email, telephone, fax, etc.) to reach your target audience, stimulate demand, staying close by recording and keeping an electronic database memory of customer, prospect and all communication and commercial contacts, to help improve all future contacts.
The characteristics of fully fledged database marketing are ....
Each customer and prospect is identified as a record on the marketing database; markets and market segments are groups of individual customers.
Each customer and prospect record contains not only identification and access information but also a range of marketing information. It also includes information about past transactions and about campaign communications.
This information is accessible before, during and after the process of each interaction with the customer/prospect, to enable "you" to decide how to respond to the customer/prospect's needs.
The database is used to record customer/prospects responses to campaigns.
The information is available to marketing policy makers to enable them to decide such things as which target markets/segments are appropriate for each product/service etc.

DBM presents many challenges to management. It requires careful maintenance of great volumes of detailed customer data. Accessing the data, interpreting it, and using it to drive or support the marketing function requires a long-term marketing systems development policy.
It also requires computing and marketing people to work together, often educating each other. And, it may well require most people in the company to forget their traditional way of doing business.
DBM will only work if dealing with customers is viewed as an on-going process (Customer Contact Process).

DBM is used to move customers up the ladder.
The essence of database marketing is communicating directly with the customers and asking them to respond in a tangible way. It provides the means for the customer or prospect to respond and is set up to measure and fulfill the response.L
It sets up or reinforces a relationship with the customer, which is "fulfilled" when we follow up a customer's response to our communication. Fulfillment may be in many ways; a personalized email, a telephone conversation, sending literature (pdf), a sales visit, attendance at a web seminar, exhibition or store, or sending products to the customer.
So DBM is a broad discipline, not a separate marketing communications medium, but a way of using any medium to elicit the desired response.
The Phases of Development of Database Marketing
In any business function, automation tends to go in phases. In DBM, we see four phases - these phases are not jumps, each covers a broad spectrum of approaches. They evolve into each other, but their philosophy is very different.
Phase 1. Mystery Lists.
In this phase, marketing databases are basic sales databases. They are often organized by product; a customer may appear many different times under different product categories. It may be hard to identify that it is the same customer. These databases tend to grow from accounts systems and they are hard to analyses for marketing purposes. There is usually conflict with other functions ... they see no reason for changing database structure to meet marketing needs! Lists of potential customers are brought in and not integrated with the sales database/s. They may be used once, to identify potential customers for a particular product, and then discarded. Whether a campaign is successful or not does not affect the rest of marketing.
Phase 2. Buyer Databases.
In this phase, sales and marketing databases are well organized, but there may be many databases. If a company uses several channels of distribution, there may be a database for each channel. Customer focus is possible; we can identify the nature of our relationship with a particular customer across different products. Databases can be analyzed to develop strategy. Each database campaign is well planned and executed in itself, but may overlap, or even conflict, with other campaigns. Increased effectiveness without overall co-ordination leads to more conflict. The conflict may be within the marketing function; or with sales or inventory management. From Phase 2, we learn which data are important, which kinds of data we need to use together, which conflicts and stresses we must resolve and how to use DBM professionally.
Phase 3. Co-ordinated Customer Communication.
In this phase, one database drives all customer communication and management. Computer systems are used to co-ordinate and drive campaigns. The emphasis is not on the database, though this is the powerful tool that makes it all possible. The emphasis is on customers. Our first questions are: who are our customers, what are their needs, and how shall we plan and co-ordinate all our communications efforts to meet them? In phase 3, we plan campaigns using the database. A campaign management system ensures that all involved in a campaign know the schedule. We review past performance, we test, we inform other functions of our proposed activity, we use automation to evaluate the campaign; all campaign information automatically enriches the database.
Phase 4. Integrated Marketing.
Many functions automate within closed loops but need information from other areas. It may never be possible to link every function automatically, but each functional subsystem automatically gets the information it needs from every other subsystem. But we can go a long way to ensuring that the critical links are made at key stages. It is not possible to maintain a good database without a call center. Calling and talking to your customers and prospects is the only way to keep the information relevant and timely
In summary, to achieve a high level and capable DBM system, the costs can be astronomical and the actual implementation daunting indeed. Many new companies are springing up across the Internet claiming to be a provider of wide scale DBM systems. However, when one scrutinizes these offers most of them are nothing more than automated auto-responders and a few cute replicated web pages. The primary difference you need to look for is a complete cycling system that builds 24 hours, tracks traffic from all offers, captures full demographics and integrates this wealth of information into every aspect of the marketing tools. The term Portal was coined with the advent of the first search system, Yahoo. Before Yahoo we used software called Gopher to find things on the Internet. Back then; there was little if any positioning, strategies or real marketing going on except for the usage of spam. As we all know, spam sucks, doesn't work and even if it did, is totally unethical. In fact the whole leads business of producing or buying leads and selling and reselling them in my professional opinion is just as despicable as slavery was not so long ago! The practice of selling people's private and personal information is the root cause of the three sins of marketing. Spam, telemarketing and unsolicited faxes.
So what does this have to do with Traffic Portals? Well, nothing and everything. Portals are sites like Yahoo that build repeat visits and loyal users to their service. Buying and selling leads. Why it will never work like it used to. Why it will never work at all anymore.
Why I consider it slavery of your privacy!
I have spent the last 6 months preparing this report. I have heavily investigated the process lead providers use to produce their leads. I have an ethics issue with the entire process as well. So this report is designed to illustrate why buying leads is unprofitable, unduplicatable and unethical. While reading, listen to this song Let Freedom Ring in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King.
The process of producing then selling leads requires capturing someone's personal information. (ie: name, address, city, state, zip, phone and email). The Internet has become the main process for these companies. Mostly utilising spam and to a much lesser degree, the search engines. It doesn't really matter if these lead companies verify the email address either, because they don't care. I will explain that later in my report.
When you buy a batch of leads, so are 50-100 other people. So the race is on. Keep in mind that you are now competing to convince this lead to do business with you against a barrage of other pitches they are receiving. This barrage of calls will put the lead on the defensive unless you are the lucky one to call them first. Even if you are the first one to call (or paid the premium price for exclusivity) them, they DO NOT KNOW who you are. They DO NOT KNOW why you are calling. They DO NOT REMEMBER giving anyone permission to sell their information, much less, to a bunch of unprofessional telemarketers (Sorry, no insult intended). You must deal with massive rejection and even worse a major disconnect. Not just their disconnect, but you disconnect too. Because you don't like having to do this to succeed.
There is a solution, but I will address that later.
A month ago I was on a conference call when my sponsor claimed, "O C sold the best leads. That no other lead company was any good, period". That they called all of the leads and confirmmed them before selling them. So, I decided this was a great opportunity to test these, so called, best leads for sale. I bought 30 of them for about $150.00. I talked to 11 of them, about 30%. Also note, I did not pitch them a deal. I introduced myself as the CEO of Inetekk and was doing a survey in regards to what they thought about having their personal information sold, if they remembered how they gave this information away, and how they felt about all the phone calls they were getting. The ones I talked to are listed. The following is a detailed report of my results. I have omitted the ones that never responded. I called all of them 3 times, left messages, morning, afternoon and, evenings, on 3 different days, including weekends:
Chuki Wooten (NC)
(called 9:40am Nov 01 and talked to Chuki). Chuki remembered filling out a bunch of surveys that was required to win the free laptop she received in her email . One of them was a survey about a residential-based business. She was pretty upset with all the phone calls she was getting from people pitching her on all kinds of business opportunities. She did not recall being surveyed by phone from OC. And she was real upset because she realized she was never going to get the laptop. She felt scammed.
Onell Amor (FL)
(called 9:49am Nov 01 and talked to Onell). Onell said 6 residential-based marketers had already called him. Was not impressed. Does not know who OC is. Thinks he signed up for something residential-based work related from an email . Wanted me to tell OC to stop sending any more marketers. When I explained to him that OC had sold his information to 50+ marketers he got real upset.
Bryan Cole (FL)
(called 10;02am Nov 01 and talked to Bryan). Bryan wasn't interested in a residential business because he already had one. Said he had already been called 6 times. Wanted to know why all of a sudden he was getting calls. When I explained that his personal information was being sold he got real angry. When I asked him if he remembered filling out a form on a website or email he said he thinks he did. I asked him if a website disclosed to him that his personal information was being sold to many people would he still fill out a website, he said, "Absolutely not!" He asked me about Veretekk and after explaining what Veretekk is all about he said he would sign up for it, but has not as of this writing.
Lee Henry (OH)
(called 10:42am Nov 01 and talked to Lee). Lee did not like getting "tons of calls". He also said he had never been interviewed. Lee said he has cancer and the last time he was on the Internet was 6 months ago. He said at one time he was interested in a residential business but not now. He asked me to tell OC to stop everyone from calling him. He was extremely upset knowing his information was making someone money without his permission.
Barry Bryan (OH)
(called 11:15am Nov 01 and talked to Barry). Barry said he had already received 3 calls. He did confirm he had some interest in working from residential. He didn't remember if he filled out a form on a website or email. He said no one had called him from OC. He asked me to call him back in a week. He wanted to go back to sleep. I called him back at 10:12am Nov 08 and got no answer. I left a message. Never heard back from him.
Larry Wofford Jr (MO)
(called 11:50am Nov 01 and talked to Larry). Larry told me he had already received over 10 calls today and was not in a good mood about it. He told me he had no money and to please never call him back and hung up on me.
Janet Klein (KS)
(called 12:55pm Nov 01 and talked to Janet). Before I could say very much she interrupted to tell me she was not happy with all the calls she was "being flooded with" and not interested and hung up on me.
Candace Aaneb (TX)
(called 1:03pm Nov 01 and talked to Candace). Candace was very upset to realize her information was being sold. She was "pissed off by too many phone calls today" regarding "jobs from residential" people. She did not remember anyone from OC ever calling her. She did not remember what she filled out online but did recall doing so in the last week. She asked my to tell OC to stop selling her info and did not want to work from residential anymore.
Sandra Cano (TX)
(called 1:51pm Nov 01 and talked to Sandra). Sandra did recall being interviewed by OC but was positive she had never filled out anything online. She told me she didn't want anymore calls either and said good bye and hung up.
The issue is the Disconnect. Do you see the parallel with slavery?
What does that mean? Let me explain. First let me illustrate some examples:
When you receive an email from someone you do not know, is there any reason that you trust anything they are telling you? Is there any reason why you should spend any time even reading what they sent you? They, amongst thousands of others, are filling up your mailbox, and it is probably making you angry. They do not know you, you do not know them, and the entire process has you frustrated, angry, and feeling violated.
You come residential after a few days of being away, and your fax machine is filled with vacation specials, mortgage offers, stock tips, medication offers, networkmarketing deals, etc. You have to sort through this to look for legitimate faxes, and without much thought you through it all away. But if you did think about it, you would realize that all of those thoughtless unsolicited faxes had used paper you paid for, and toner supply that cost you. And why do they send it? Because they think you will believe them, and buy into what ever it is they are selling. Do you? No because you do not know who they are much less trust them.
It is dinnertime. You have just sat down from a long day to be with your family and the phone rings. Sighing, you get up and go to the phone, and answer it. On the other end is a stranger trying to sell you medication, a newspaper, a work from residential deal, who to vote for, etc. You shake your head at this stupid time wasting jerk and hang up.
All three examples are typical cases of disconnect. You do not know them and they do not know you. There is no reason in the world why you will even listen to them, much less buy from them. Why would you? There is no trust. And we live in a world where strangers doing this very thing are ripping off people at an alarming rate. This is a major disconnect. And if this form of selling and marketing really did work, don't you think Ford, Microsoft and AOL, would be doing the same thing? The deadly disconnect and slavery as well!
So why do you think this type of marketing will work for you or your down line? The worse type of disconnect occurs to you when you pursue this type of damaging marketing. Not only not working, it subjects you to insults, guilt and negative results, robbing you of your hopes, dreams, and self respect, as you realize the terrible reality that this is failing and so are you.
But even worse is the up line, or sponsor, spewing this to their down line as a solution. Talk about stupid! This is the quickest way to destroy your down line, as most of them will try it once, fail miserably, and just quietly fade away as your down line slowly dies. This is the disconnect that kills their dreams, kills growth and eventually kills your organization.
There is an ethical solution to this!
That solution is depending on systems and techniques that connect you to your market.
Your warm market right? You hear that ALLOT IN THIS INDUSTRY. But no we are not referring to your neighbors, friends, family and the 3-foot rule.
Good grief, where would Ford Motors be if they started out and continued to only sell to their friends and neighbors and family. It is laughable and absurb to even think this. But this is another fallacy that leaders, companies, and sponsor propagate. So just forget this because it does not work.

A long time ago in a time far and far away….OK, I know this is a smarmy way to start, but it is apropos. You see back when I was a kid about 8 years old I talked some of my friends Mike Luna and Patty ( I forget her last name, sorry Patty), into a scheme with me. I got them to measure my backyard with my Dad's tape measure. Then we three each measured with string 1-inch squares over the grass. I got this idea from archeology digs in National Geographic. After the three of us counted the grass in each of our respective squares I added the sum of the count and divided that by three so I got the average blade count. OK, so now you are wondering where I am going with this right? Keep reading….
After measuring the size of the back yard and determining the square footage I multiplied that by 144 to get the square inches. Then I multiplied that by the average blade count so I could figure about how many blades of grass where in that back yard. The number was astronomical. Of course my friends were very curious as to why I wanted to do this.
So as we laid under a tree on that hot summer day, my eyes all dreamy thinking about the future, I started to share with my friends a dream I was having. "You see", I started, "all those blades of grass represent people with money. If I could just figure out a way to get each one of those people to pay us $1 per month for a long time we would become the richest people on earth. And the best part is, no one would mind spending such little amount because they would hardly miss it". So we sat there for hours racking our brains how we could reach that many people and convince them to pay us $1 a month. Then we talked about what in the world we could sell each of those people every month to get them to pay for it. We eventually went on with heading out to the beach and going surfing. That day faded away as my childhood slowing passed into adolescence then adulthood. However, the idea of making money without having to work a job was always at the forefront of my thoughts my whole life. I never liked the idea of working for someone else. A job just wasn't something I ever wanted.
OK now fast forward to 1992! I had heard of the Internet now for several years. I wasn't on it, I was in AOL. I was making good money selling Adobe software on AOL's classified sites. I had a deal from Adobe back then. I had connections, (That is another story) with Adobe from my advertising days in San Francisco back in the 80s. Anyway…. I was able to buy Adobe Illustrator for Macintosh from Adobe in huge quantities for $25 per box because I had a beta relationship with Adobe. I would then sell them for $200-$300 per box on those classifieds and sell they did, by the truckload. I made a boatload of money. But this is not exactly what I had in mind. I knew there was a better way to make money. Then something wonderful happened…..
I got an email from a company that sent email out for customers from Cyberpromo (Owned by the soon to become infamous Sanford Wallace). This practice would latter become known as spam. The spam I received was promoting an Internet Service Provider with flat rate access to the Internet. At this time AOL cost $2.95 an hour. I wanted to see what the real Internet looked like so I signed up. After signing up I discovered that the ISP, know as Powernet, was a commissioned-based Multi Level distributorship. I realized that by promoting this service I could get a monthly check from potentially thousands of subscribers. When I got my first check for $20, I was hooked.
Oh my, that old idea from when I was 8 years old was reborn! Eureka, here was my chance to make that old dream come true. I unleashed a massive campaign that eventually built a huge organization that started paying me more money then I could imagine with the potential to just expand into an astronomical check every month. I kept a copy of that downline and when the company went out of business I bought the domain as well.
OK so the company failed. The problem was they couldn't keep up with the growth from my organization and instead of dealing with issues of growth just closed up shop and took off. Bummer!
But I have never forgotten that vision and have successfully built other organizations since then. It is my burning desire to keep this dream alive but even more than that dream, to make this a reality for the millions of people out there that share this dream. You know who you are. Sometimes with saying NO you reach more respect get stuff faster done and get more respect, than when you say yes to everything and fail to get your goals accomplished.

In the same time so more people don't take the responsible to provide for their families and only want Government funds, and we know there are always people who will abuse the system, this system also will crash.

As I see everybody has their baggage and it is up to us what really is our priority, mine is my kids and my moms home based business. Now I know that on my trip I can have other challenges, like getting a flat tire or coming into contraction area were I need to take a detour, but my focus stays that my destination is Dallas and that it will take me around 4-5 hours to arrive there. My action here to arrive in Dallas on time, I must get into my car and take off. When I am prepared and done all of the necessary work but miss to take off, I will never arrive in Dallas, that is just so easy and simple. The same principle is necessary to reach your goal with moms home based business or in every area in your life, you must take ACTION and with knowing that you will have challenge on the way it makes you much stronger and very good in finding solution. On the other hand when you are not sure were you want to go and just take off with your car, you plan for failure and frustration. WOW what for a week here in San Antonio,Texas with IKE. People stormed the Grocery Stores and buying food to be prepared for Ike and other hosted families from Houston and Corpus Christi area for safety. The storm and rain didn't hit us, but the Houston Area. When I saw the picture I was shocked and in the same time glad that I have my moms home based business! 82. Is a Moms Home Business Already Programmed in Your DNA? A Home Based Business is programmed in my DNA.
For a long time I didn't knew what exactly I wanted, only that I want to help
people. I had no idea about what it was or how to get it. I just was different
than the rest of the family who still believes only on a job and complains. Well
I was the daughter of my dad, and he was the son of his dad with a home
business. You see it really is in my DNA.
I now invite you into my family history.
My grandfather was a German farmer in Danzig, Pollen. His farming
included cattles, wheat and vegetables, horse breeding with the finest sort of
horses and also working horses for farm work. He also was an employer for all
the hand needed for his farm. In March 1945 my Family was forced to leave
everything behind them and were shipped out to Denmark. There they were looked
up behind fences in a camp, learned to starve or valientier to work and to
survey until 1947. My family was than shipped back to Germany through one
concentration camp to another until they arrive their destiny and signed out
from other family member who were lucky and shipped straight to Germany.
My grandfather only wanted to work from home, so he started farming
again to feed his family and six kids. In 1952 he bought a big house with barn
in Gechingen, and in 1958 he bought land and built a successful Farm again which
my uncle inherit. Today the farm is much bigger, but still a family business
handed down to my cousin who breeds Angus Beef Cattles and has 30 Pension
Horses. My dad bought the house from my grandfather, remodeled it and started
his home business as a mechanic for cars and farmer machines. He also started a
horse business with breeding horses, buying and selling. I was training them and
went to horse shows and won many prises until I quite out of health reason and
got married. My dad sold his last horse in 2004, just before he suffered from
Alzheimer.
My dad also had his challenges in life, my mom didn't supported his
long term goals. His repair business didn't survive, when the big car dealers
shout down all small businesses by only distribute tools to dealer ships. The
result was that my dad was not able to repair cars because of the missing tools.
He took action in 1979 and got a job as maintained guy at the local school which
required us to live in the school apartment. This again allowed him to work from
home on his schedule. At the same time he got himself into real state investment
business. He rented out his house now with 3 apartments and he bought 2 more
condos and than went into stock market investment business.
When my dad passed away with lung cancer, he left a total modern renovated
house, the oldest house in town build in 1620, a residential monthly income from
4 apartments and retirement check for my mom, investments, he was depth free and
all his bills were paid for his last 3 years of hospitals, doctors, therapy,
medications and nurses coming daily into his home.
His wealth was created from his home businesses and never had been
accomplish from a job income. I remember many times when my dad tried to
teach me his skills to created wealth, and his warnings, but I was not open to
understand it. I started my home business 3 years ago, and paid thousands of
dollars for seminars, curses, ebooks, books, and you name it. On my trip to
Germany this June, and spending some time on my dad's grave I found out that he
was my greatest teacher. He was right that I needed to learn it the harder way
to get what I wanted, but never why to work my home business, because this is in
my DNA.
Everybody in life has challenges and sometimes we are total down, but
that will mold us to the person we need to be, but we have to choose the right
path and to get back up on our own feet, and let the past of limit believes go.
I had my challenge and filled for divorce after my husband started an affair
with black woman who can be his mother, she total controls him, destroyed our
marriage and his relationship to his boys, my reputations and life in Huntsville
Alabama. I took action and moved to San Antonio Texas, rebuild our life and
build my home business as a single
mom. Many people have the limit believe that a home based business is a high
risk. What is the risk? That the business owner have to work through dedication
to improve his skills, to stay focus on his goals, takes necessary action and be
in total control of his income? Or do nothing and living in fear how long they
will have a job.
One of the great things about a moms home based business is that everyone's
business growth is completely PREDICTABLE.
The neat thing is I can tell you how your home based business will grow based
on one simple word.
That word is DUPLICATION.
DUPLICATION means:
